Central Station, Prague, early August,2026
Standing at the door of the Foyer Café
I am not here for coffee, or for laughter.
Though those pearls of laughter still vibrate in me.
I am here for the glimpse of the table
Where we sat together a few months ago and had great time.
As usually, as so often.
I love the first times Life presents; that Saturday afternoon was the last time.
None of us suspected it would be.
We all will meet again in god’s literary café,
Said the priest at the ceremony.
To enter it – all we need is to live and love.
To live our lives as fully as we can.
That’s the only condition.
No judgement day or night.
A man in a service uniform is also standing at the door.
A glass of water and ice on the service table in front of him.
The days are heat stricken, nights, too.
Politely he asks me if I have a lighter.
Not to light a cigarette, but to glue the plastic key ring, he adds.
Will it connect? I ask.
Of course it will. Fire connects everything, he says.
The fire of creation and of love.
The fire that dissolves our bodies.
Not our souls.
The fires of this scorching summer, do you miss them,
Vero?
They are burning holes into our egos.
I know you are in a cooler place, the one that is pure.
The essence of You has stayed here.
That is all I can say.
Without a coffee or a laughter, I leave.
To take another train.
