Our fellow writer and friend Miguel is moving to Berlin. Here are some texts we wanted to address to him to wish him farewell! The Writing Brussels’ “other” writers 🙂

Hay un puente nuevo que une Bruselas y Berlín. No lo ha construido un arquitecto, no se apoya sobre pilares, no tiene barandillas ni se eleva sobre un río caudaloso. Existe hace poco tiempo para que palabras que son como niños lo atraviesen corriendo, para que lo iluminen palabras que brillan como  el sol, para que lo adornen palabras tan bellas como las flores. Un puente de ida y vuelta, sin principio ni final, abierto y atento mientras sueña con el próximo encuentro.

Bruxelles est un endroit parfait pour apprendre à accepter le changement perpétuel. Dans quelques jours, Miguel, notre ami et collaborateur, part pour Berlin pour y suivre son chemin parsemé d’inspirations diverses, zigzaguant entre différentes langues et cultures.

Miguel a eu l’idée de créer notre groupe, Writing Brussels, quand il ne s’appelait pas encore Writing Brussels. C’était il y a 6 ans. A l’époque, nous étions un ensemble hétéroclite et mouvant, lié par la passion d’écrire. Nous ne savions pas encore que nous allions faire un livre ensemble, Brussels Umbrellas. Nous ne nous doutions pas que nous allions organiser plusieurs lectures publiques, dont l’une à l’ouverture d’un festival de théâtre (Feats) et la plus récente dans les rues de Marolles où nous avons créé une concurrence redoutable aux musiciens de rue. Toute l’aventure était à construire. Et elle n’est pas terminée.

Notre groupe va continuer à écrire et à explorer Bruxelles qui nous inspire tant. Miguel, qui a grandement contribué à la construction de l´édifice nommé Writing Brussels, va toujours l´habiter.
Et, qui sait, peut-être deviendra-t-il notre premier correspondant à l´étranger ?

Blessed is the man who can reinvent himself and try a new life.

We are lucky to live on a continent where people can move freely and expatriate, to seize new opportunities. All over the world, millions of people do not have that privilege.

We are extremely grateful, Miguel, for leading this group during all those years, for the energy you brought into the project, for pushing us a little further away from our comfort zone, and of course for your excellent literary contributions.

But even without one of his founding members, Writingbrussels will survive. This is the miracle of life: there are always enough people to survive and carry on.

Berlin, informally dubbed as the “European capital of cool” is ahead. Time has come for Miguel.  A new chapter for his novel.
